Within and beyond sport, values help to determine a team’s focus, establish norms of acceptable behavior and directly influence a team’s functioning and performance. A team’s value can dictate to team members how to behave, communicate, cooperate,
and deal with conflict. When clear norms are set, everyone on a team is more likely to follow them.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
Sports involves not only players having different sets of skills but also players having differences in beliefs, opinions, and experiences. It is by embracing these differences that we allow the realization of goals and accomplishments. Diversity
is so important since it promotes creativity, unique perspectives, and new opportunities. Diversity and Inclusion are key to allow our teams to thrive in a similar way.
The culture of excellence model guides our strategies to improve our team’s sport’s culture with the goal of achieving enhanced performance outcomes. By understanding that success and failure isn’t measured by wins and losses, but by achieving
personal excellence, we give ourselves the best opportunity to succeed in sport and in life.
Working strenuously toward challenges, maintaining effort and interest over years despite failure, adversity, and plateaus in progress. The gritty individual approaches achievement as a marathon; his or her advantage is stamina.
